International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) Defense

On October 16, 2007, the S. 1612 “International Emergency Economic Powers Enhancement Act” was signed into law by the President. The law amends the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (“IEEPA”), to greatly increase civil and criminal penalties for its violation. The legislation is Public Law 110-96. It states that it is “unlawful for a person to violate, attempt to violate, conspire to violate, or cause a violation of any license, order, regulations, or prohibition issued under IEEPA.”
